So Ends Another Chapter

And so the regular season of football comes to an end... playoffs now being the main focus for the country with the Super bowl lingering in the distance. I'll follow the games, but am unsure as to which team I will cheer for. I have the Eagles that I could give my support (because my support means so much) considering I've lived in Eagle territory almost my entire life, all my friends are fans and so is most of my family. OR, I could rally with the Steelers since I spent 4 amazing years in the City of Steel while I was at school and I really love that city. But then I can also cheer for the defending champs, the Saints... no real love for them but no real hate for them either. Or the Falcons, something about their performance this season that I respect and commend.

It's really between the Eagles and Steelers.... though I don't really want the Eagles to win the Super bowl, because it's too much fun to constantly hold the "YOU'VE NEVER WON A SUPER BOWL" card over their heads. So maybe Big Ben and the gang will get my vote...until the lose.

All in all, it was a decent season.... yes the Redskins did not do nearly as well as expected, but they also did much better than last season. Not just in winning 2 more games, but even the games they lost. What do I mean? They played like a real team, yes there is the big McNabb issue... ok, not the greatest move but every team makes bad calls and this is a team that is trying to find itself right now. It's Shannahan's first season with the team... let the man do his job! He's going to use a lot of players most people won't, because he wants to see how they perform in a game setting. So the benching McNabb, yes though harsh since he's a veteran player, he's also a pretty inconsistent quarterback... anyone willing to deny that, I'd love to hear your reasoning. He's not bad, but he's really not great.
I'll be the first to admit I misjudged him... going into the season I laughed at the Eagles for trading away their star QB, but as the season went on I decided I shouldn't assume things anymore... cause you know what they say about assuming....
That said, I think McNabb was also going through a big transitional season... new team, new players, new coaches, new strategies.... so give the guy a break. This also takes me to the point of Rex Grossman... a lot of players get traded around to teams until they land in a team that they play well with. I'm not saying that Grossman is the long term answer for the team... but he got more points on the board for the Redskins in 3 games than McNabb did in 5 or 6. I know what everyone says about Rex, but the fact of the matter is, he finished up the season well for us. We got one more win and two very close loses, both a field goal difference.
So the Redskins end the season with a record of 6-10... tying with the Cowboys, which does kind of suck since they were horrible most of the season. I'll recap the season briefly...
(Preseason record 2-2... Grossman played the whole time and played well, except against the Ravens, but that was a full team failure. But it's preseason, who cares.)

Game 1 vs. Cowboys: Win 13-7.... great start since no one knew what to expect of the Skins and the Cowboys were supposed to be one of the toughest teams for the season. Great start.

Game 2 vs. Texans: Loss 27-30.... every team wins some and loses some, this was the first lose but a close one. One hell of a game... and a lot of points too, something us Skins fans had missed last season.

Game 3 vs. Rams: Loss 16-30.... At this point everyone had the gut feeling of "Not Again" or the frustration of "What is McNabb doing?!" But this was a game (if I remember correctly) that we had the lead until the 2nd half where our defense fell apart.

Game 4 vs. Eagles: Win 17-12.... Not a huge win, but in a game that everyone was unsure what to expect (McNabb playing his former team for the first time, the Eagles having found their started in Vick) this was a huge step! This also gave me great joy when I was at a bar in the city cheering for them Skins! Our win was contributed to the fact that Vick got hurt in the first quarter... but at this point no one knew how much of a weapon Vick had really become.

Game 5 vs. Packers: Win 16-13... None of these games that we win are huge wins... in fact all of our wins are a field goal point victory (except the first game against the Cowboys). But this was nice, because it began to feel like the Skins were finding their rhythm, even if it was a soft beat.

Game 6 vs. Colts: Loss 24-27... The Colts are a real tough team, especially with Peyton Manning leading the charge. Though we did lose the game, it was a close game and a valiant effort by the team to keep the Colts on the edge of their seats.

Game 7 vs. Bears: Win 17-14... WHEW everyone was unsure if the losing was going to go on for awhile. And the Bears have an extremely tough defense, something that could be fatal for a team that is still working on finding a good offensive line. But we pulled through... This game also put us at 4 wins, the amount we had last season in total. So the one thought in my head is please just one more win so we can at least see some sort of improvement.

Game 8 vs. Lions: Loss 25-37... This is the third worst game we play all season, with the worst game being one week away. Boy did we not know what we were in for. This is also the game that started the big McNabb problems, when he was benched late in the 4th quarter.

Game 9 vs. Eagles: Loss 28-59... Ouch. Vick came back with a vengeance from the last game we played. First play of the game for the Eagles, touchdown... and almost every possessions for the first half was a touchdown drive for them. The Redskins finally got it together in the 4th quarter, I'm not sure if this was they found a weakness or if the Eagles were just tired from whooping so much butt. Maybe their tiredness was their weakness? Who knows... this was tough to watch since I ventured back into the city again to a bar where I was the town whipping boy... but also got some applause from the bar patrons when the Redskins finally scored their first touchdown.

Game 10 vs. Titans: Win 19-16... After last week I was unsure what to expect, I felt kind of vulnerable all week. But this win gave me hope in the sense of knowing that the teams spirits had not been shattered, nor the fans! But it was also important to me, because this granted me my wish from game 7... another win! We were at 5 wins for the season, I felt like a kid on christmas... little did I know at this point, I wouldn't see another win until after christmas. The next 4 weeks are what I like to call the Deadskin Weeks.

Game 11 vs. Vikings: Loss 13-17... This game was a huge let down. The Vikings were having trouble all year, between drama with Favre and the team in general having injuries and no momentum I thought for sure this was going to be a solid win. Boy was I wrong, figures the one game of the season the Vikings want to play like a real team is against the Redskins... oh well.

Game 12 vs. Giants: Loss 7-31... This was the second worse game all season. But I knew it was coming, the Giants have been a tough team all season, though at this point they were starting to become inconsistent... but I had no real hopes of a win here, but the magnitude of the point difference did hurt a little.

Game 13 vs. Buccaneers: Loss 16-17... I was at this game. Gano, the kicker, had such a bad game... you can say that when a team loses, it's a team effort to have that happen. Well in this case I disagree, Gano lost the game for us... we missed 2 easy field goals that would've ensured our win. The last play, which extra point attempt snap was too high was not his fault... but it wouldn't have been a curial kick if he had made one of the two field goals earlier! At this point I was feeling sad from a lack of wins... 3 weeks straight now.

Game 14 vs. Cowboys: Loss 30-33... 4 weeks straight now. This game I wasn't sure what to expect... The Cowboys had been beaten by us earlier in the season, but since firing their coach had become the team everyone thought they would be in the preseason. Well they proved it, and beat us. This was also the first game where Grossman started and McNabb was benched for the remainder of the season... all I can say is 30 points! Most points we scored in a game all season.

Game 15 vs. Jaguars: Win 20-17... Going into this I decided to stop wanting a win and just embrace the losses. But I was surprised when we won! What a treat, we finally win a game to make our season 6-9. Not a good record by any means, but looked much better than last years! This game I didn't get to see any of, it was my sister's engagement party... but thank God for text message updates from NFL.com! I got to enjoy the party and the game at once... both things that gave me reason to celebrate!

Game 16 vs. Giants: Loss 14-17... Last game, bitter sweet after the season, but I still felt we could win... the Giants weren't playing very well anymore and with Grossman we had seemed to find a way to get points. It was close and we still lost, but nothing like we did last time we played them. We finish the season 6-10... improvement from last season, so let's hope next season we see more!

It's so nice to reminisce.

Other things to talk about... I found out my starting weight is 198 not 196... :( This is because our weight is 2 pounds off. Which probably officially puts me in the overweight category of the chart from my other post.

One last thing I wish to share with my world of vast readers (sarcasm) If you are a Star Wars/Star Trek fan... or like the movies Avatar or Baby's Day Out, you should check out this link.

It's this guy that has hilarious reviews of films. I'm sure he'll get into more movies soon, but they are too funny. They are weird and creepy at times, but it's his way of breaking up the review and just making you laugh. It's an odd sense of humor, but everything he says about the movies I totally agree with.

Anyway, enjoy!
